Article – Hear A Pin Drop At 20 Feet

Yep! I believe that maybe right. Our RØDE VideoMic & The Mrs. can probably hear a pin drop at 20 feet. I learned many years ago, that you can say something, and the Mrs. at the other end of the house will hear you with no problem. I’ve come to believe that our RØDE Mic is just as sensitive as the Mrs. hearing is, and that’s got to be on par with Super Women or Wonder Women or some other incredible super power.
The equipment available today for making videos is simply amazing. While still being amateurs at making videos, The Mrs & I Productions, our video making Department at MichaelThought Magazine, is very fortunate to have acquired some really nice equipment. Some of it new and some used, but, the power and sophistication of the equipment available today is amazing.
When I think about audio sound and quality recording, I remember back in 1963 when my parents brought their Wollensak reel to reel recorder to record a grade school band presentation.  It was a fine piece of equipment for the time, but, it still left a lot to be desired in the quality of recording live events.
Our RØDE VideoMic is a professional grade 1/2″ condenser shotgun microphone designed for use with consumer video cameras and personal audio recorders and it has a standard sized shoe mount also includes a 3/8″ thread in the base for easy mounting on a boom pole or stand.
By employing a super-cardioid polar pattern the VideoMic becomes highly directional, focusing on the subject in front of the camera, and minimizing any surrounding sounds. In addition to the microphone’s native 40Hz-20kHz response a selectable high-pass filter at 80Hz is available, which will prevent low end noise such as air conditioners and traffic from being recorded.
What a great piece of equipment and we had good luck also in finding a modern tripod for our video work.
The Xit Elite Series 75” Tripod is such an upgrade from the heavy metal tripods we had on hand from decades past.
Our lightweight Xit Elite Series Tripod which features a 3-way panhead with tilt motion for easy adjustability, also has two bubble level indicators, and an adjustable center pole, so you can capture stable and level images precisely. So light weight and the tripod has really handy grip handle. Such a pleasure to use compared to tripods of a few years ago.
As The Mrs And I Productions gears up for our video productions to support our upcoming Kickstarter Project, The BladeKeeper®…keeps blades sharp!™, launching September 11th, 2018, we certainly feel grateful for the vast improvements in equipment and of course the wonderful studio software available today. What a pleasant change from the processes of 50 years ago or even just 20 years ago.
Lights, camera and all we need now is some action! Watch for upcoming videos by Old CowBoy Writer™, our Spokesperson for The BladeKeeper® and also one coming up featuring Maestro Magician Extraordinaire doing his magic to keep razor blades sharp.
