Pets can add so much to life to make it better.
For those of us that are fortunate enough to be able to have a pet or pets are possibly receiving more benefits than we realize. And one possibly should have more compassion for those who can’t have a pet, for whatever reason.
If a person who loves his pets walks the Earth long enough, he or she will have been a companion and care taker for many loved pets. And like the Seasons and the Years, they pass on to greener pastures, while we, if we are blessed continue on. In time, usually a new pet comes on the scene and we share the Seasons together, like with the pets of our past.
After enjoying pets for 30 or 40 or 50 or more years, you have experienced a lot of laughter and joy, and most of us remember all of our past friends. They will always have a special place in your psyche, I believe, because of all the good they do for humans.
Pets doing People good came to my attention again recently and that brought about this article. Several months after the passing of our oldest cat, a Siamese, at 17 yrs plus old, the search continued for a new pet cat. We had always been a multi cat family and while our American Orange Short Hair, Morris, who looks just like the cat on the package, has been a very good cat for over 10 years now, there is room for another cat. A kitten of about 8 wks. would be just right. And the hunt continued.
As it turned out, our son John had a kitten available from a litter at his house. While the breed is different than our original search, my what a “spoiled cat” this one has turned out to be, and in such a short time. The Mrs. says, “that cat got a double dose of cute!” And as most times, she hit the nail on the head. Cute cat, to the max! Good looking, smart, and just a touch of orneriness. All are good characteristics in most any species, and this cat has them all.
Nearing 6 months in our home now, Alex “The Mess”, has secured a place in his owners hearts, as all good pets do, and has reminded me, of the all the good pets do for people. This is evidenced, by the increased amount of laughter and play in the home, all brought about by the introduction of a pet into the environment. As they say, laughter and play are very good for the soul, and that makes it good for the body and the mind, automatically, I believe.
So, while Alex “The Mess”, kitty continues to grow, and we continue to laugh at his antics and play times, we will continue to take pictures from time to time, to remind us of the times when Alex was a kitten and to provide opportunity for humorous captions, to provide laughter to others. That’s how one pet does good for other people, besides their owners. A pet can do a lot. ☺
