It’s True! If you don’t have your health … you can’t do shit!Or it feels like it anyway. We can’t seem to get as much stuff done, as we normally do. When you feel like crap and especially if you hurt and are in pain, it just wears you out so quickly. So what’s new! Most everybody young and old knows that, what’s the point?
Well, the point is, that the better “the current health state”, the quicker the recovery period back to the “normal health state”, of your body. Point being if one is normally “pretty healthy” and doesn’t find oneself in pain or discomfort, it’s easy to not notice the “actual health state” of one’s body. You know lots of extra desk chair and living room chair and etc. chairs and less and less of actual exercise … of any kind! Work, carriers, projects, inventions, etc., can become extremely time consuming and since we are not sick, we don’t notice a problem. And, of course that adds to the recovery time, discomfort/pain and other unwanted effects when we, out of the blue, actually have a health issue.
This author’s “reminder experience” came in the form of an dental issue. You know, one of those “oh crap” moments, like when you are eating some health food, like almonds and that “pop” you heard in your head was not the nut cracking, it was a tooth! Oh crap … anyway, after a period of time your favorite Dentist pulls the broken tooth, which goes exactly as planned, (he’s a real good Dentist, just like his dad before him), but it’s already a dry socket, and there had been infection, so there will be some discomfort. Yea, right!
I wrote a note for the dentist for the follow up visit a week later, and it read as follows: My Best Friends This Week Are The Following … in order of friendship importance, Prescription Meds, Ibuprophene, Oral Anesthetic Gel, Ice Pack, Wonderful Wife, Blender, Food Processor, Sleep Pillow, Vacation Time Available.
I thought he should know how my week went after tooth removal. I also made it completely clear to him, that he did a very good job on his part, and he had removed a tooth for me before and there was not a problem. It was just that with age, for some people anyway, it takes longer than it used to, to heal and be without “discomfort”. And I discovered that my “normal health state” needed some improvement to be better prepared for any future issues.
I’ve decided to start this “path to a better health status” with desk exercises, since that’s the predominate body position during waking hours. Starting with a 2 lb. mini-barbell for top half of body improvement, one at each desk, work and home. We will see how it goes. It seems like a good start anyway. Maybe it will become a habit … that would be good. It appears at this time, anything would be an improvement, so we will start there and go on.
In reviewing the “health status” thing, it occurred to me, that if you count all diseases, there are probably millions and millions of people on planet Earth today, that “don’t have their health” and it’s nothing new. The human body is an amazing thing and complex enough, that our best and brightest in the 21st century, still don’t know all there is to know about it. Also, it doesn’t take a lot to “mess up” the human body’s health.
So, if you still have some level of “normal health status” for your body, consider adding something, anything, to your normal level of exercise. A little bit now, will probably make a difference down the road a ways. A long ways, if we are lucky and blessed.
